Zoning
Big Horn County does not currently have county-wide zoning regulations. Aside from special regulations for development in mapped flood zones and airport protection zones, the county only requires permits for construction/development, subdivisions and small wastewater systems. Please contact the Land Planning Department before proceeding with any construction projects.
Planning and Zoning Commission
Pursuant to W.S. 18-5-202, Big Horn County established a planning and zoning commission. The Planning and Zoning Commission is responsible for ensuring that land use and development proposals meet the community vision set forth in the Big Horn County Land Use Plan. The Commission holds regular public hearings for subdivision applications, zoning changes, changes in applicable regulations, and special projects. Members draw on evidence submitted from experts, staff, applicants and County residents to make recommendations for action to the Board of County Commissioners.
